Cerebral perfusion imaging using EIT
Imaging of cerbral perfusion is understood to provide rich information on cerebral processes. This study explores whether EIT is able to image perfusion in the brain. In a single rat, a bolus of hypertonic saline was introduced into an arterial catheter during two activity states, and EIT images reconstructed. Results suggest that changes in perfusion pattern are visible in EIT images.
متن کاملPerfusion Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Introduction Imaging sequences based upon blood oxygenation level dependent (BOLD) contrast are currently the predominant method for functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) of the brain. BOLD weighted sequences offer both high contrast-to-noise ratio and good temporal resolution. The BOLD signal reflects the total amount of deoxyhemoglobin (dHBO2), and is thus a complex function of cerebra...
متن کاملCerebral perfusion imaging by bolus tracking.
Cerebral perfusion may be visualized by the dynamic imaging of an intravenously injected bolus (a few milliliters) of clinically approved gadolinium-containing contrast media. During its passage through the vasculature of the brain, the contrast agent induces magnetic field disturbances, which can be seen as signal loss on appropriately weighted dynamic MRI. This article deals with the quantita...
متن کاملThe role of relative cerebral blood volume obtained from Perfusion Weighted Imaging-MRI in glioma tumor grading before surgery
Introduction: Glioma is the most common type of brain malignancy among adults. Treatment for this type of tumor involves surgery, radiotherapy, and in higher grades, including chemotherapy. The precise grading of the tumor is critical for treatment planning and prognosis determining. Considering the possibility of problems such as errors in tissue sampling during surgery, as we...
متن کاملPerfusion-Based Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging
The measurement of cerebral blood flow (CBF) is a very important way of assessing tissue viability, metabolism, and function. CBF can be measured noninvasively with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) by using arterial water as a perfusion tracer. Because of the tight coupling between neural activity and CBF, functional MRI (fMRI) techniques are having a large impact in defining regions of the bra...
